3 Tips For Helping Someone Move Into A New Home

If you have a friend or family member who’s getting ready to move into a new home, you might be wondering what you can do to help them. And while doing things like helping them load their moving truck or watch their kids and pets while they’re actively in the moving phase can be incredibly helpful, these more obvious moving tasks will usually be taken care of. So to really be the lifesaver of the move, here are three tips for helping someone move into a new home and settle in comfortably, be it a new family home or a new room in an assisted living facility

Consider Things They Might Have Forgotten

When managing a move, it’s easy for certain smaller things to slip through the cracks. But when your friend or family member needs those things, going without them will be a real pain. Knowing this, you should try to use some of your mental space to consider the things that they might have forgotten to plan for during their move.

Some of the items you might want to focus on could include things like bringing over extra packing supplies that they might run through faster than they anticipated, keeping things like soap, toilet paper, and paper towels ready available after they’ve packed them away or haven’t gotten to unpacking them yet, and other necessities that could easily be forgotten.

Help Them Set Up For Their First Night

Another thing that can be very helpful once your loved one is at their new home and trying to unpack is to help them settle in for their first night in their new place.

While your loved one is busy trying to manage their move and others who may be there to help, you could be helping to get their beds set up, especially if they have younger kids who will need to be getting to sleep before too long. This is something that can take time and be very much appreciated if it gets taken care of without a fuss.

Clean Up After Everyone

Things can quickly get messy during a move. So as everyone is trying to pack up the moving truck and get everything out at the new home, one thing that you can devote yourself to is cleaning up after everyone. When garbage is created, find a place to store it and then get rid of it when there’s enough complied. And as boxes get unpacked, make it your job to break those boxes down so that they can easily be stored somewhere out of the way.

If you’re going to be helping someone move soon, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find ways to really be useful to them.
